Breville BOV800XL Oven Review

Breville makes premier kitchen appliances in Australia. Located in Melbourne and started in 1932, Breville began as a company that made wartime equipment, and later switched to appliances. Today, the company makes a variety of products, including standard toasters, coffee pots, and kettles. When they began in 1932, they made mine detectors and radios for the war before they changed their product line to one of home appliances.

Their toaster oven, the Breville BOV800XL Oven, functions as a toaster oven for the home kitchen. With 4/5 cubic feet in the interior, it has an 1800 W convection toaster, and is also nonstick so that it is easy to clean. With its so-called “IQ technology,” Breville is famous for its ability to finely control it when you cook. It also comes with nine preset functions, removable crumb tray, auto eject rack, and broiler rack.

One of its best features is that it has the ability to turn off automatically. Because most toaster ovens require that you turn them off when they’re done toasting, this is something you normally have to remember. However, this one not only has a timer that tells you when your food is done cooking, but it will also simply turn the toaster off, which means you can use this toaster oven very safely. It’s large enough to accommodate a pizza pan of 13 inches’ diameter if you want to cook pizza at home. It does require a warm-up time, but it’s not as long as that of a conventional oven.

Of course, as with anything, Breville does need some improvements. Because the electrical cord is less than 3 feet long, you’ll need to keep it close to an outlet; the short cord is perfect if you don’t want to move your toaster oven anywhere, but if it’s going to be located anywhere away from an outlet, this can be a drawback. It also requires significant amperage, and it has a large plug, which can make it difficult or impossible to operate it on the same electrical circuit as other appliances, particularly if you don’t want to cause a power outage. To use it, in fact, the plug must include a 20-amp breaker.

That said, Breville BOV800XL Oven does come with a good manual, and it’s easy to clean with its “nonstick” surface. A stainless steel finish and nine programmable settings are also very nice features. Most customers say that they would purchase this appliance again. It’s certainly worth its cost, if you’re looking for a toaster oven.

Again, you will need to have enough room to use the oven, and you’ll need enough counter space or another freestanding space to hold it, with a significant amount of space around it as well. Don’t place it on any sort of unsteady or rickety surface, because if it falls, this could be a hazard.

As said previously, there are some caveats; one of them is that if you use the toaster oven, you will need to make sure nothing else is going to come in contact with it when it’s on. It will be very hot when it’s done and the oven especially will be hot when it’s open, so that nothing else, especially paper or other flammable products, should be around it.

It does require some preheating to be effective as well. Once it is preheated, simply follow the instructions on the product you’re baking. It should be no issues with over cooking or undercooking, since, again, you can set a timer and it will turn itself off when finished. Make sure you clean the oven not after every use, so that it stays clean.

Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQ

Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQ Review

I will briefly give my opinion on this oven.

Have had it for a month. I love the large read and lighted function display.
I don’t have to use reading glasses!

It dings a few times when toasting is commplete, and it does a really great job
with toasting…doness level can be easily set, and is accurate.

Cooks evenly with larger items.

I like it much better than any smaller oven I have previously owned and would
buy again in a minute. Hope it lasts !!

The only negative, which is very minor, is the convection fan is not quite as
quiet as I would have expected. Otherwise it is a thumbs up for me.

Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQ Overview

The Smart Oven’s Element IQ puts the power where it’s needed most. For each of the 9 pre-set programs, Element IQ delivers the right power at the right time and when adjusted to taste, it even remembers. Element IQ works much like the dimmer in your light switch-it can turn the power up or down. Instead of the 5 heating elements having a fixed wattage, Element IQ automatically puts the power where it is needed most for the specific cooking task. Not only does the Smart Oven heat up faster than a conventional wall oven, it’s also more energy efficient than its predecessor, making it a kitchen tool you will use every day.

The selectable convection heat helps make this oven smarter than ever. One major problem when roasting or baking in a compact electric oven is evenly distributing heat where needed for consistent food coverage. Convection uses a fan to blow the heat around the chamber. This not only promotes consistency but can reduce overall baking, roasting, and broiling time. The Smart Oven from Breville uses the same technologies and similar materials found in professional ovens. So the smarts come from above. Yet you get to share the sparks of professional wisdom in your kitchen. If you prefer a natural oven instead of a microwave, the Breville Smart Oven is a smart choice.
